US Ambassador, Mr. Richard Verma Calls on Union Agriculture Minister

The newly appointed US Ambassador, Mr. Richard Verma called on Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh. Agriculture Minister mentioned about the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister to US and US President’s visit to India which have added more vigour to already warm relations enjoyed by two countries. Issues of mutual cooperation and also cooperation for ensuring World Food Security were discussed. Special emphasis was laid for transforming the structure of the cooperation vis-à-vis the current scenario requiring necessary changes as enshrined in the cooperation agreement signed in 2010 in the agriculture & allied sectors.

It was agreed to give renewed focus on cooperation in agriculture between both countries and initiate immediate steps for renewing the MoU signed in 2010 at the earliest possible with inclusion of new areas in the light of changing requirements and circumstances. It was also decided to amicably resolve sanitary and phytosanitary issues between the two countries for enhanced bilateral trade.

US Ambassador put on record his appreciation of the work done by government of India & USAID for the Agriculture Food Security Programme. Agriculture Minister expressed interest in the technology used by USA for weather forecasting for improving preparedness as well as redressal of problems caused by natural calamities.
