The site is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India under the Union Ministry of Culture. The hills are also popularly known as Kumari and Kumara parvatas respectively and are located in the vicinity of Bhubaneswar town. There are total 33 rock-cut caves on both the hills. These hills were first brought to notice by A. Stirling in 1825 A.D. These hills are honeycombed with excavated rock-cut caves, essentially meant for the dwelling retreats of the Jain recluses.
