Note from The Editor : We have started a series of articles on Indian Army. This includes articles which are intended to spread general awareness amongst the entrepreneurs and the youth. While the articles are likely to motivate the youth for joining the Indian Army, but the entrepreneurs and start ups are likely to be benefitted by the general information about the organisation, structure and equipment of units of the Army. We have already addressed Saurabh Sinha_Indian Bureaucracy_Editorissues like “Deficiency of Officers in Armed Forces”, and also intend to address issues like “Environmental Specifications for the equipment in Army”.

We hope you enjoy reading the article and have general insights into the Indian Army. Due care has been taken not to address operational and confidential issues and bring out aspects which are apt for a common man and hence we have a senior army person writing his views .

Kindly do let us know, in case you are interested in any specific topic, so that we can take them up in subsequent issues. However, we would request you to refrain from suggesting topics which are confidential in nature and inimical to national interest.

  1. 1. I am getting queries regarding the following:-
    (a) Process for selection
    (b) Willingness to join but office not sparing
    (c) Relaxation in criteria

    2. My comments on the above issues are as follows:-
    (a) Process of Selection – As detailed process was not feasible to be included due to paucity of space, hence, willing candidates are requested to kindly contact the given addresses/ tele Nos for any clarification. Process is also given on the website.

    (b) Relaxation in Criteria – Willing candidates are requested to kindly contact the authorities on addresses given.

    (c) Willingness to Join but Office not Sparing This is an issue which needs to be addressed at the epic level by MoD and GoI. In this regards, following issues are highlighted:-

    • Army Headquarters and MoD may consider use of TA officers for augmenting the strength of officers in the regular Army and make up the deficiency to some extent. For what duties can the TA officers be used at different levels in peace stations / field can be worked out by a study group constituted at an appropriate level.
    • It is envisaged that a large number of eligible and motivated personnel are willing to serve as TA officers, however, they are constrained as their office is not ready to spare them. It is therefore recommended that a legislation be passed by the government in national interest. The legislation should make it mandatory for the respective organisations to spare the candidates to apply for TA and sparing the selected candidates for the required duration. Necessary checks and balances as well as the detailed procedure for the same can be worked out.
