Shri Tapan Ray IAS (Gujarat 1982) presently Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs has been given additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs vice Shri Shaktikanta Das, IAS (TN:1980) with effect from 01.06.2017.
Shri Tapan Ray, IAS has been Secretary of Corporate Affairs at Department of Electronics and Information Technology since September 2015. Mr. Ray served as the Managing Director of GSFS Capital Securities Ltd. since October 4, 2006 and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited since November 9, 2009. Mr. Ray served as a Managing Director of GSPC Gas Company Limited. He served as the Managing Director of Gujarat State Petronet Ltd., since November 9, 2009 until September 30, 2014. He was a Senior IAS Officer and has administrative and corporate experience of 28 years. He served as Principal Secretary for Economic Affairs, Finance Department in Government of Gujarat from June 2006 to November 2009.
Mr. Ray served as the Chief Executive Officer of Sami Labs Ltd. since November 1, 2004. Mr. Ray serves as the Chairman of Sabarmati Gas. Mr. Ray has been a Director of Gujarat State Financial Services Limited since October 4, 2006. He serves as a Director of GSFS Capital Securities Ltd., GSPC (JPDA) Limited; Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited.; GSPC LNG Limited; Guj Info Petro Limited; Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited; GSPC Pipavav Power Company Limited; and ONGC Petro-additions Limited. He served as a Director of GSPC Gas Company Limited. He served as a Director of Gujarat Gas Limited until September 30, 2014. He served as an Additional Director of Gujarat Gas Company Limited from June 12, 2013 to October 2014. He served as a Director of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. He served as a Director of Sami Labs Ltd. since November 1, 2004, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited from November 1, 2006 to January 3, 2010 and Shasun Pharmaceuticals Ltd. from June 27, 2009 to August 19, 2011. He served as a Director of Gujarat State Petronet Limited from January 31, 2007 to September 30, 2014. He served as a Non-Executive Independent Director of Petronet LNG Ltd. from November 21, 2010 to October 8, 2014. Mr. Ray holds a Degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Post Graduate in public policy from Princeton University, USA and a Master in Public Administration from Syracuse University, USA. He has a BS and a Master’s Degree in Geology from University of Calcutta. He holds an LLB and MS from University of Baroda and LLB (special) from the Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and Diploma in International Law and Diplomacy from Indian Academy of International Law.
