Shri Piyush Goyal Inaugurates “Premashraya”

Shri Piyush Goyal, the Minister of State (IC),for Power,Coal, New & Renewable Energy, inaugurated “Premashraya” a home for Cancer patients and their relatives of Tata Medical Center, at Rajarhat , Newtown in Kolkata. The 10-story building will enable 525 persons, only Cancer patients and their relatives from outside Kolkata and getting treatment at Tata Medical Centre, to stay there at a nominal charge.

While speaking on the occasion, Shri Goyal announced that Coal India will set up 5 (five) Cancer Detection Centres, one each at the Coal Mining belts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh for the benefit of the people staying in the remote areas facing lot of troubles to get access to quality treatment for critical ailment like cancer. Appreciating the effort to lessen the hardship of poor cancer patients coming from far-flung areas, Shri Goyal asked the Premashraya Trust to get the industrialists, business community and others involved for the maintenance of the ‘home’ which require at least Rs.30 crore a year. Coal India Ltd., the Maharatna PSU of the Coal Ministry has already sanctioned Rs.41.11 crore for the construction of Premashraya. It will again come up for the help of the Premashraya, if necessary, the Minister assured. Shri Sutirtha Bhattacharya, the Chairman, Coal India Ltd. said, Coal India is happy to be associated with such a noble and humane endeavour.

Premashraya, a home away from home, stands at a stone’s throw from the Tata Medical Centre at Rajarhat, New Town. The building, apart from having facilities for lodging of patients and their relatives, also has palliative care cubicles, child care centres, counseling rooms, physiotherapy unit and an auditorium.
