Sanjaya Baru new secretary general of Ficci -indianbureaucracy

Shri Sanjaya Baru, who was media adviser to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has been named new Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci).Shri Baru will assume the charge from September 1, Ficci President Pankaj Patel said in a statement. He will replace A Didar Singh.

The Ficci committee “has decided to appoint the renowned economist and journalist Sanjaya Baru at the helm of Ficci as its Secretary General,” the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci). Shri Baru will assume the charge from September 1, Ficci President Pankaj Patel said in a statement. He will replace A Didar Singh.The Ficci committee “has decided to appoint the renowned economist and journalist Sanjaya Baru at the helm of Ficci as its Secretary General,” the chamber said.

Dr. Sanjaya Baru has been a Non-Executive Independent Director of Wockhardt Ltd. since April 2012. Dr. Baru holds PhD and Masters Degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Dr. Baru was the official spokesman and media advisor to the Prime Minister of India and has also served as editor of the Business Standard, chief editor of The Financial Express and as associate editor of The Economic Times and The Times of India. Dr. Baru is Director of Geo-economics and Strategy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London and a Honorary Senior Fellow and member of the Governing Board, Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi.
