REC to support Rural Development in North-East India under CSR

REC Foundation, the CSR arm of the Navratna Central PSU REC Limited, signed a memorandum with the North East Slow Food and Agro-biodiversity Society (NESFAS) promising a support of Rs. 9.41 crore with a view to partner in the rural development program “No one shall be left behind”.

“No one shall be left behind” is a three-year project aimed at enhancing indigenous food systems to improve nutrition, provide food security and generate sustainable livelihoods for over 3000 households in 130 remote villages in Meghalaya and Nagaland. The project activity includes nutritional analysis, community seed fares, promoting consumption of nutrient-rich local species, skilling and training for entrepreneurship and livelihood program, and an initiative in renewable energy for community wellbeing. The program is designed to benefit the youth, adolescent girls, women and community elders.

The agreement was signed on 30th February 2018 between Dr. P V Ramesh, Chairman REC and Mr. Phrang Roy, Chairman NESFAS. Dr. Ramesh appreciated NESFAS for its groundwork in rural communities in Meghalaya and expressed his hope for such an important community-based project to be replicated in other states.
