Rear Admiral R S Laswai, Commander, Tanzanian Navy is on an official visit to India from 29 Aug to 01 Sep 16. His visit is intended to consolidate bilateral naval relations between India and Tanzania and to explore new avenues for naval cooperation. The Admiral has assumed Command of the Tanzanian Navy on 23 Nov 2015.

Commander Tanzanian Navy will hold bilateral discussions with Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff and other senior officials of the Indian Navy on 29 Aug 16 and is also scheduled to call on Defence Secretary and Vice Chief of Air Staff.

The Indian and the Tanzanian Navies cooperate with each other in training, Hydrography as well as interact at multilateral forums like IONS and MILAN. Indian Naval ships visit Tanzanian port of Dar Es Salaam regularly to build ‘bridges of friendship’. IN ship Trikand is scheduled to visit Dar Es Salaam in early Sep 16.

Hydrographic cooperation between the two maritime nations has increased post signing of a MoU on Hydrography in Jun 15. High level exchanges are regularly undertaken between both navies. The maritime relations between the two countries received particular emphasis during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Mininster Shri Narendra Modi to Tanzania in July 2016 and the visit of Rear Admiral R S Laswai, Commander Tanzanian Navy to India therefore assumes significance.

The Admiral will visit Goa Shipyard Ltd and Naval Institute of Hydrography at Goa besides Headquarters, Southern Naval Command at Kochi, where Tanzanian Navy personnel undergo training. The dignitary would also visit various training facilities at Kochi including visit to Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala.
