R&D vital for RINL business strategy

The Union Steel Minister Shri Chaudhary Birender Singh reviewed the performance and working of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Visakhapatnam at a meeting with the top management of the company in Udyog Bhawan New Delhi .

In his address, Shri Birender Singh remarked, “Research & Development must be taken as a vital component of RINL’s business strategy for sustained cost competitiveness. We must find out alternatives to and replacements of existing steel making technologies which rely heavily on imported raw material like coking coal. For optimal utilization of land bank available with companies, modernization & expansion, as also industrialization in general, must go for vertical route instead of horizontal route. Core, technical & specialized jobs must not be outsourced by the companies. Technically competent people must be given regular jobs so that they don’t lose out on the Social Security benefits. To achieve this, we must shorten the time from manpower need planning to recruitment.”

The Secretary, Steel Ms. Aruna Sundararajan, The Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel Ms. Urvilla Khati, CMD, RINL, Shri P Madhusudan and other senior officials from Ministry of Steel and RINL were present on the occasion.
