Shri Rajen Gohain today assumed the charge of new Minister of State for Railways in Rail Bhawan here . He is a Member of Parliament from Nagaon constituency in Assam. He was re-elected to Lok Sabha (4th Term) in May, 2014 from this constituency. He has been representing this constituency since 1999. Soon after taking charge, he had had a brief discussion with Chairman, Railway Board, Shri A.K. Mital.

Talking to media after taking charge, Shri Rajen Gohain listed out his priority areas as Safety and Security, Expansion And Growth of Railway Infrastructure, Passenger Amenities and Passenger Services, Improving Punctuality, Redressal of Public Grievances, Expediting Railway Projects in North-East.

A graduate in Arts and also in Law, Shri Gohain has been active in social and political field right since his youth days. He is founder member of Nagaon district unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). During his long parliamentary career, Shri Rajen Gohain has been Member of various committees which include Member, Standing Committee on Home Affairs; Member, Committee on Papers Laid on the Table; Member Consultative Committee, Ministry of Agriculture; Member, Standing Committee on Water Resources; Member, Committee on Provision of Computers for MPs, Office of Parties, Office of Lok Sabha Sectt.; Member, Standing Committee on Information Technology; Member, Committee on Subordinate Legislation; Member, House Committee; Member, Committee on Petitions; Member, Standing Committee on Railways; Chairperson, Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes; and Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Agriculture.

Shri Rajen Gohain, has participated in Assam movement. He has worked for the welfare of various tribes in Assam. He takes interest in varied fields which include history, sports, music, agriculture, tea plantation, rubber, pisciculture, dairy farming and social and cultural activities. He has visited some foreign countries like Laos, Thailand and UK.
