The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways receives proposals from various States/Union Territories for declaration of state roads as new national highways (NHs). These proposals are considered from time to time keeping in view the requirement of connectivity, inter-se priority and availability of funds. No separate allocation of funds is made as such for declaration of state roads as new NHs. The details of State roads declared as new NHs in the country during last two years and the current year are as follows

About 47,890 km length of state roads have been approved “In-Principle” for their declaration as new NHs subject to outcome of their Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and initiatives have been taken for their DPR preparations.
