PM inaugurates Delhi Metro Magenta line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi  inaugurated a stretch of the new Magenta line of the Delhi Metro. Mr Modi unveiled a plaque to mark the inauguration. Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma, Urban Development Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, Managing Director of Delhi Metro Mangu Singh were present.

After the inauguration, Mr Modi and other dignitaries also took a metro ride from Botanical Garden to Okhla Bird Sanctuary Station. The line connects Botanical Garden in Noida with Kalkaji Mandir in Delhi. It will significantly reduce travel time between Noida and South Delhi.

Later addressing a public meeting in Noida, Mr Modi said, this is an era in which connectivity is all important and life comes to a standstill without connectivity.

The Prime Minister said, the Metro line which was inaugurated today, is not only for the present but also for future generations. Mr Modi said, in 2022, when India will mark 75 years of freedom, his dream is that people live in an India in which the petrol imports reduce and in order to achieve this, state of the art mass transit systems are the need of the hour.

He said, on 24th December 2002 then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated and took the ride on the metro which was a historic moment. Mr Modi said, since then, the Metro network in National Capital Region has expanded considerably.

The Prime Minister said, Governance cannot happen when the dominant thought process begins at ‘Mera Kya’ (What about me) and mujhe kya (It does not concern me). He said, the Government has changed these mindsets.

Mr Modi said, for the Government decisions are about national interest and not political gains. He said, Good governance can not happen when outdated laws hamper decision making.

He said, earlier Governments took pride in making new laws but his Government wants to be the Government that removes laws that are obsolete. The Prime Minister said, work on railway infrastructure, expanding road network is happening at a historic pace under the tenure of his Government at the Centre.

He said, India is making strides in the renewable energy sector. He added that when his Government came to power, LED bulbs were expensive but now it is affordable.

Remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mr Modi said, Mr Vajpayee is the Bharat Marg Vidhata and he has shown people the way towards development and he focused on futuristic road infrastructure.

Mr Modi said, it is due to the people of Uttar Pradesh that the nation has got a strong and stable Government. The Prime Minister said, he will always remain grateful to Uttar Pradesh for their affection.

Congratulating Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mr Modi said, the Chief Minister’s focus on good governance is taking the state to new heights. He said, unfortunately, there were superstitions associated with Noida and in his own style, Mr Adityanath has risen above these superstitions and come to Noida. He said, faith is important but blind faith is not desirable.

Mr Modi said, if anybody thinks not going to a place will prolong their Chief Ministerial tenure and visiting a place will curtail it, such a person does not deserve to be a Chief Minister.

Mr Modi also conveyed his greetings on the occasion of Christmas. He also remembered two Bharat Ratnas Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who’s birthday is being celebrated today.

This is the third metro line inaugurated by Mr Modi in 2017. He had earlier dedicated the Kochi Metro to the nation in June, and the Hyderabad Metro in November.
