Piyush Goyal dedicates SJVN 47.6 MW Khirvire Wind Power Station, Ahmednagar

Honourable Union Power Minister Shri Piyush Goyal  dedicated to the Nation the SJVN’s Khirvire Wind Power Station located in Khirvire and Kombhalne villages in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

While addressing the gathering, Honourable Union Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal said that SJVN is truly an example of National Integration.   SJVN, a Himachal Based Company operating India’s largest Hydro Power Station of capacity 1500 MW  has also set up a Wind Power Station in the State of Maharashtra.

On this occasion Mr. Atul Sawe, MLA, Aurangabad, Dr. Nidhi Pande, IAS Collector and District Magistrate, Aurangabad, Shri R.K. Bansal, Director (Electrical) SJVN, Shri Sanjay Uppal Head of Project, and other officials from SJVN were also present.

This 47.6 MW Wind Power Station was successfully commissioned by India’s well-established, multi-state, multi-national and a pioneering Power Sector Company, SJVN Limited, which is a Schedule –A (Category-I) Mini-Ratna CPSU of Government of India.

The project comprises of 56 Wind Energy Generators (WEGs) each of capacity of 850 KW. The Project with all its 56 machines was commissioned by 20th May, 2014. The Project cost was Rs. 299.61 Crores. The Power generated from the Khirvire Wind Power Station is being sold to MSEDCL through PPAs valid for 13 years. Since commissioning, the Project has fed a total of 123 million units of valuable green power in the Grid.

On the occasion, Shri Piyush Goyal,  Hon’ble Union Power Minister praised the efforts of SVJN Limited of commissioning the project successfully and said, “India has the fifth largest installed grid connected wind power capacity in the world after China, USA, Germany and Spain. However, India has yet to do a lot to wind power potential fully. With this Power Station, we will be able to contribute significantly in meeting the electricity requirements.”

Shri R. N. Mishra, Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN LTD, said during the inauguration, “We are happy to dedicate this Power Station whereby we can contribute to wind power electricity generation. Being a pioneering Power Sector Company of India, we have targeted to generate more than 8700 Million Units of power with expected revenue of Rs. 1,783 crore from Hydro Power as well as from the       47.6 MW -Khirvire Wind Power Station.”

Shri Mishra further added that as on 31st August 2016, the installed capacity of wind power in India was 27,675 MW. So far, India has been able to tap only 26.92% of the available wind energy potential of 1,02,788 MW at 80m hub height.

This Khirvirie Wind Power project, besides feeding generation into Maharashtra state Grid, has directly and indirectly benefited the local population by means of generation of employment, work contracts to local contractors, development of local infrastructure.

Moreover, under CSR obligations, SJVN is also operating one Mobile Medicare Unit in the project area through M/s Helpage India. Scholarships are also granted to meritorious students of project affected people.
