Nuclear collaboration with Canada to grow further: Dr Jitendra Singh

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Nuclear collaboration with Canada has proved mutually beneficial for the two countries and is bound to grow further in the years to come.

Dr Jitendra Singh was speaking to Canadian High Commissioner to India, Mr Nadir Patel, who called on him to brief him about the current status of collaboration between India and Canada in nuclear science/power and other areas of bilateral interest.

Dr Jitendra Singh said that there has been a consistent, comfortable and compatible relationship between India and Canada, as a result of which, even , a large number of youth migrating overseas from India, prefer to choose Canada as their destination. He also recalled the meeting between the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Canadian Prime Minister during Shri Modi’s visit to Canada last year. As a follow up of an agreement finalised during that visit, the Uranium collaboration between the two countries has shown significant rise, he said.

Canadian High Commissioner to India, Mr Nadir Patel also discussed with Dr Jitendra Singh, the possible timing and dates of the visit of Canadian Prime Minister, Mr Justin Trudeau to New Delhi later this year. He also referred to the meeting that a delegation of Nuclear physicists from Canada had with Dr Jitendra Singh in Mumbai recently.

Mr. Patel also offered to provide inputs to boost various developmental activities going on in the North Eastern States of India and said that he may like to undertake an exploratory visit to Northeast in the months to come.
