The 69th Republic Day of the Nation was celebrated at NLCIL with great fervour and enthusiasm.  Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Township Administration Office premises and inaugurated the day long celebrations. Later, he hoisted the tricolour flag at the Bharathi Stadium. He inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the Guard of Honour presented by the Rifle, Commando and Fire Service units of Central Industrial Security Force, NLCIL’s Security Force, Fire Services, Home Guards, NCC volunteers and students from Neyveli schools and college.

In his Republic Day address, Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya extended his greetings to the NLCIL family. He recalled the day, 26th January 1950, when the people of India gave themselves a constitution which enshrines principles of justice, liberty, equality, gender and economic equity and doctrines of good governance. He mentioned that India is the largest democracy of the world and the people should be proud of the Country’s democratic values.  For last seven decades the strong institution of democracy built by founders of our nation has withstood the test of time and our country stands tall as a Sovereign Republic.

NLCIL has grown from a lignite mining and lignite based power company to an integrated energy company by diversifying into coal mining and coal based power generation, and also into renewable power generation from solar and wind sources with a PAN INDIA presence.

The year 2017 was a highly eventful with lot many positive developments for NLCIL. It has been a remarkable year with the consolidated efforts catapulting on the path of exponential growth. NLCIL has achieved ever highest performance both in physical and financial fronts since inception of the company over last 60 years and made its highest contribution to national exchequer to the tune of Rs.4965 Crore, compared to Rs.1975 Crore for the previous financial year, registering a growth of 151%. In capacity addition front, NLCIL grew by 54.75% in thermal segment, 48% in mining segment and 19 times in renewable power segment over last three years creating records.

Ongoing works on every target reinforce the confidence that will able to make NLCIL a PAN INDIA Energy Major of 20000 + MW with its own fuel sufficiency for thermal segment and a balanced generation portfolio of renewable power, primarily from wind and solar.

As a responsible corporate citizen, NLCIL is also equally alive to create well being for the society in carrying out various special welfare measures like infrastructure, education, water resource augmentation and skill development activities, not only in Neyveli complex but also on PAN INDIA basis like in Rajasthan, UP, Odisha and Jharkhand where NLCIL’s Projects are going on.

Dr. Archarya briefly mentioned the Prestigious Awards won by NLCIL such as IEI Industry Excellence Award, National Award for best HR practices-2017, 16th Annual Greentech Safety Gold Award -2017, Three National Awards instituted by Public Relations Society of India – Best Corporate Film (ii) Best PSU Implementing RTI and (iii) Best CSR Project for Women’s Development, Corporate Communication Excellence Award–2017 for Brand building through Inclusive Growth Initiatives.

CMD in his speech, outlined NLCIL’s various initiatives under Corporate Social  Responsibilities (CSR) Schemes that bring sustainable developments to the larger society and environment.  During year 2017-18 , NLCIL has organized 27 camps for Cleanliness drive and Sanitation awareness programmes through Swachh Bharat Mission Pakhwadas with active participation of local school children, taken up De-silting and Deepening of many of the community ponds in surrounding villages under the Jal Paryaptha scheme (Water augmentation) and under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna, constructed water drainage system for Bikampur Panchayat, Bikaner District, Rajasthan.

He congratulated the NLCIL students of various schools and many of its employees who have brought laurels in the field of academics, sports and games by which they have made their parents and NLCIL Family proud.

The senior most employee of NLCI Shri R. Selvaraj, Attendant Spl. Gr.A, Education Department along with his spouse Smt.S. Panchavarnam were honoured by Smt. & Dr. S.K.Acharya and a tricycle was presented to Shri R. Nagarajan and Smt. N. Ayyammal, differently abled persons.

Shri. Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance), Shri Subir Das, Director (Mines),                              Shri V. Thangapandian, Director (Power), Shri P. Selvakumar, Director (Planning & Projects),           Shri R. Vikraman, Director(Human Resource), Shri T. Venkatasubramanian, IRSME, CVO, NLCIL participated in the function. The long service awards, loyal service awards and special awards were also presented to the employees by CMD. Special Awards were also presented by functional directors and CVO to students who excelled in sports.

Earlier Shri R.Vikraman, Director (Human Resource) welcomed the gathering. NLCIL’s senior officials, executives, supervisors, employees, workers representatives of Unions and Associations and the residents of Neyveli were present in Bharathi Stadium to witness the celebrations. Colourful cultural programme presented by about 3700 school children were appreciated by one and all.

To mark this occasion, the Members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the           in-patients of the NLCIL General Hospital and wished them for a speedy recovery.  The highlight of the evening function was the distribution of certificates to the students of the Neyveli Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha at Lignite Hall, Block-11, Neyveli.
