Dr. Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chief Guest of the Valedictory session for the three day National Seminar on Emerging Energy Scenario in India said that as many Thermal Power Stations running in the country crossed 30 years, it should be replaced with Environment Friendly Ultra Super Critical Boiler Technology , so that the pollution due to thermal power generation may be reduced.

The Valedictory Session of the National Seminar, jointly organized by NLC India Ltd., and the Neyveli Local Centre of  Institution of Engineers was held on yesterday (21-01-2018) at Neyveli Leaning & Development Centre. The Seminar organized in three major topics viz., Mining Technology,  Thermal Power Engineering and Renewable Energy was simultaneously conducted at NLCIL Learning and Development Centre, Thermal Power Training Centre and Lignite Hall respectively. As many as 75 Research papers were submitted in 19 technical sessions arranged on important themes. 472 delegates of various Public and Private Sectors from home and abroad including NLCIL executives participated in the Seminar.

Dr.Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL, the Chief Guest of the Valedictory session said that capturing of Carbon-di-oxide emitted from Thermal Power Stations is the important step for going clean and green energy. He also said that the old Thermal Power Stations should be replaced with Ultra Super Critical Boiler Technology for reducing the pollution to certain extent.

While talking about the power surrender by Electricity Boards, the CMD informed that NLCIL has earned about Rs.200 crore in the current financial year by way of power trading and said that this may go around Rs.250 crore in this financial year.

While presenting  the concluding  remarks  of the seminar,  Shri Subir Das, Director Mines, NLCIL informed that the country has a fossil fuel reserve about 300 Billion Tonnes of which 50% can be minable in the present technology. As the country’s present mining capacity is 1 Billion Tonne  per annum, this natural fuel resources will exist more than 150 years. He also told that mining industry is providing direct employment  for 6 lakh persons and  indirect employment for 30 lakh persons. So Mining and Thermal Power industry have to be modernized to work with minimum pollution.

Shri Suresh Chandra Suman, GM/Mine Planning, Shri Venkata Subbiah, CGM/Thermal and Shri Chinnadurai, GM/Projects & Business Development Dvision of NLCIL compiled the Seminar Proceedings in respect of Mines, Thermal and Renewable Energy respectively.

Shri Prasanth Chowdhury, Technical Secretary,  Eastern Coal Fields Ltd., Shri Anupam Lahari, Director, Coal Contral Dept., Govt. of India , Dr.S. Gomati Nayagam, Former Director General, National Insitute of Wind Energy and Shri Ganesan, DGM, NLCIL shared their views from what they have learnt from the Seminar.
