In commemoration of the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallababhai Patel, former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Vigilance Awareness Week is celebrated throughout India.  All the Government and Public Sector organizations celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week to bring awareness on Vigilance among the employees and the public.  The theme of the celebrations for this year is “Eradicate Corruption –Build a new India” and would be observed from 29-10-2018 to 03-11-2018.

The Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations 2018 at NLCIL was inaugurated by Dr.S.N Soman, Visiting Professor .Tamilnadu, National Law University, Trichy, the Chief Guest in the presence of Shri  V Thangapandian ,Director(Power), NLCIL  and Shri T. Venkatasubramanian, IRSME, CVO,NLCIL, on 29-10-2018 at Learning and Development Centre.

In his chief guest address, Dr.S.N Soman stated that for democratic vitality of the nation, Judiciary and vigilance plays proactive role in protecting citizens’ fundamental rights and it warns, those who neglect the values of our Constitution.  Judiciary has played an active role in enforcing and strengthening the constitutional goals towards rights of the land. The absolute and unlimited power to any high public institution /organization without accountability is harmful to the society. It is each individual’s responsibility to uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty and act without fear or favor and held accountable for transparent society.

Shri Rakesh Kumar,  CMD NLCI in  his absentia sent  his  VAW -2018  message by stating   fight against corruption is the responsibility of the every citizen and stake holder of the country. At organization level the effective role of vigilance is to protect from external factors and promoting efficient work culture in all its domains.

Shri V Thangapandian, Director (Power) the president of the function said that, to eradicate corruption in all forms and to build a new India, each and every individual should show responsibility to eliminate corruption inside and outside of the mechanism with adoption of ethical systems and practices in all walks of our lives.

Shri T. Venkatasubramanian, IRSME, CVO, NLCIL in his VAW speech, insisted that Integrity of administration and honesty of officials are very important factors rs to ensure good governance. The extent to which we can make our internal machinery effective and responsive to the society depends on the sincerity and probity of the each individual.

To mark the occasion, Shri V .Thanagapandian ,  launched   the Retirees  Grievance  Redressal System  (RGRS, a Web portal  developed by Computer services of NLCIL  to  benefit retirees  of NLCIL  to provide  quick redress and efficient monitoring of grievances. Also 3000 paper weights and computer mouse pads printed with anti-corruption slogans were released.

After the programme the Dr.S.N Soman, the Chief Guest,  Shri V. Thangapandian, Directtor (Power), and Shri T.Venkatasubramanian, CVO  at  Main Bazaar, Neyveli inaugurated the   Integrity wall, where in  employees and general public can take  integrity pledge and sign on the wall. Also inaugurated a Vigilance Mobile Kiosk   vehicle, it can serve public to take e- pledge facilitated by Central Vigilance Commission,Govt of India.

Also, on behalf of NLCI, special programs  and competitions in connection with Vigilance Awareness Week are arranged for the School and College students in various towns. Also a special Live talk show on the theme Eradicate Corruption –Build a new India” arranged in Doordarshan  Telivision Channel and it will be telecasted on 31.10.2018  ( 03.00 PM  to 04.00PM) also , Velicham (Panel Discussion ) programme on 02.11.2018 (07.30 PM to 08.00 PM) in which students from colleges would participate and a Panel discussion involving eminent personalities on the theme of Vigilance is organized. The above programmes are sponsored by NLCI and the same would be relayed in DD (Pothigai)

In the inaugural function, senior officials administered the pledge on Vigilance to the participants in English, Hindi and Tamil respectively. In the function, messages about the Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 celebrations from the Hon’ble President of India, the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, and Chief Vigilance Commissioner were read by senior officials.   Earlier, Shri M. Raghavan, CGM/Vigilance welcomed the gathering and Shri S. Chandran, DGM / Vigilance proposed vote of thanks.

Earlier, the pledge on VAW-2018 was administered to the all  employees in the respective units by Unit heads.
