NLC CMD inaugurates the 7th State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament

Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLC India Limited, was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the NLC India Diamond Jubilee 7th State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament (19.08.2016) at Neyveli Lignite City Club. In his address, the CMD said that with the kind of importance shown to sports activities, the company is in a position to produce sports women and men to compete at the Common Wealth and Olympic Games.

RANKING TOURNAMENT

In commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the NLC India Ltd, the Sports Control Board of company and the Neyveli Lignite City Club in association with the Cuddalore District Table Tennis Association has organized the 7th State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Neyveli Lignite City Club premises for three days between 19.08.2016 and 21.08.2016. The tournament will have 12 events for the boys and girls at different age groups and also for the men and women with no age limit.

RECOGNITION

The tournament will identify the talents of the players and select them to represent the state in national level events. The Chief refree of the Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association Shri M.S. Dilip Kumar with 19 refrees from Chennai and other places of the state will be umpiring the performance of the players in this tournament.

INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS

Around 650 competitors from Chennai, Erode, Kanchipuram, Madurai and Coimbatore are participating in this State Level Tournament, players like T. Vishwa, Susmith Sriram, E. Prabhakaran, N. Vidya, K.R. Rohit,  Amrita Pushpak, G. Vinodh, who have played at International tournaments are competing in this tournament; also, R. Abhishek, who played at the Commonwealth Games is a participant. Neyveli is being represented by 69 players in this tournament.

INAUGURAL SESSION

Shri Acharya, in his Chief Guest address at the inaugural session of the tournament at the Neyveli Lignite City Club said, students of Neyveli possess talents to excel both in the Academics and Sports arena. To further encourage them, the management of NLC India Ltd., is extending all the required support and the infrastructure. This tournament is also being organized in line to motivate the students community.

FIRST PLACE IN FOOT BALL

Shri Acharya made a mention about Neyveli student, Selvan Saajan Prakash’s participation in the Rio  Olympics and also appreciated the students of NLC Boys’ Higher Secondary School for securing first place in the Football and Athletic meets at the Inter-Schools Sports Festival held last week at the     St. Joseph College of Engineering, Chennai.

PARTICIPANTS

Shri Subir Das, Director(Mines), NLC India Ltd and the President of Cuddalore District Table Tennis Association (CDTTA), Shri Syed Abdul Fateh Khalid, Executive Director(Mines), NLC India Ltd., and also the President of the Neyveli  Lignite City Club (NLCC),     Dr. T. Kannadasan, CGM (Geology), NLC India Ltd., and the Secretary of the NLCC, Shri Jacob Selvakumar, the Hon’ble Treasurer of The Tamilnadu Table Tennis Association, addressed the inaugural function. The Executive Directors, senior officials, employees of the company, players and their parents participated.

VALEDICTION

The Valedictory function of this tournament is slated to be held at the Neyveli Lignite City Club premises on 21.08.2016.

Shri Subir Das, will preside over the function and distribute the prizes to the winners. Rs.91,300/- will be the prize money.

Shri Sathiyamurthy, Trainer, Table Tennis, Neyveli Lignite City Club and the Secretary of CDTTA,     Shri Chokkalingam, Nominated Member for Table Tennis, NLCC and other members of the club are co-ordinating the tournament.
