NLC celebrated the World Environment Day 2016, with the theme “GO WILD for LIFE” at Yegneswaran Auditorium of Learning & Development Centre,Neyveli. Dr.K.Manivanan, Director, Academic Affairs, Annamalai University participated as the Chief Guest of the occasion .

A pledge in line with the theme was administered to everyone in the programme to take strong action to curb the illegal trade of wildlife, which is threatening the biodiversity of our home planet. Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance) read out the Hindi version of the pledge , Shri. SubirDas, Director (Mines) read out in English and Shri V.Thangapandian Director (Power) read out in the Tamil version.

Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director (Finance) in his key note address said that, to combat the global warming, Industrial development and ecological balance should go hand in hand and need to implement appropriate efficient energy technologies. He said, protecting our mother earth from all sorts of effluences must be everyone’s aim and we have to cope earth's resources in a vise, to decrease global warming. He informed that , NLC always strive to do more environment friendly mining and power generation, He added ,. Dr. K. Manivanan, in his presentation, stressed on the importance of wildlife and appealed to protect endanger species that are under threat for future generations. While requesting to avoid the usage of articles made out of wild life, he advised, every one to have zero tolerance for poaching and illegal trade in wildlife and no one should involve and not to allow endanger any species of animal or plant. He lauded the efforts taken by NLC Management in protecting the environment and its care for the society.NLC-IndianBureaucracy

Functional Directors of NLC Shri Subir Das and Shri V.Thangapandian graced the occasion and extended their felicitations. To mark this occasion, the Chief guest and Directors distributed prizes and free tree saplings to winners of the various competitions organized by Corporate Environment Cell on the occasion of World Environment Day 2016.

In the morning, Mass Tree Plantations were organized in the Mines and Thermal Units of NLC and thousands of saplings were planted by senior officials, employees and representatives of Trade Unions.& Associations Shri V. Manoharan, GM /CARD & Environment welcomed the gathering and Shri S. Nagarajan DGM/Environment rendered vote of thanks .
