The 22nd Neyveli Book Fair, organized by NLC India Ltd., will commence at the Book Fair Grounds, Neyveli, on 5th July 2019. Hon’ble Mr. Justice R. Subramanian, Judge, High Court of Madras, Chennai will inaugurate the Fair in the presence of Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD and Functional Directors and CVO of  NLC India Limited.

The Neyveli Book Fair, which was started in 1998, had a humble beginning with the participation of around 20 Publishers/Booksellers.  Following an encouraging response from the public of Neyveli and its surrounding areas, NLC India Ltd. had decided to make the Book Fair an annual event in Neyveli, which has now evolved into a socio-literary festival, catering to the literary interests of the residents of Neyveli and people/children of peripheral villages.

The following are the highlights of the 22nd Neyveli Book Fair:

  • Presence of more than 150 reputed Publishers/Booksellers of South India
  • Participation of around 3 lakh visitors during the 10 days of the Book Fair
  • Over 10,000 titles / publications offered at a 10% discounted price.
  • Entertainment / Recreation for children
  • Cultural programmes every day by renowned artistes / performers
  • A special pavilion highlighting the memories of Mahatma Gandhi to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation.

To reward the literary efforts and encourage children, several events / competitions have been included in the events of the Book Fair. Besides this, the Book Fair includes Honouring of Writers and Publishers, Book Releases, On-the-Spot competitions, Short Film Competitions and Quiz Competitions.

The objective of the Neyveli Book Fair is closely interspersed with NLC India’s policy of Corporate Social Responsibility. Today, the event is an integral part of CSR.

Senior officials from the State and Central Governments will be participating as Chief Guests on different days during the Fair.  Shri V.Anbuselvan, IAS, District Collector, Cuddalore, Shri Santhosh Kumar, IPS, DIG Villupuram Range,  Dr. Thamaraiselvi Somasundaram, Vic-Chancellor, Thiruvalluvar University, Dr. V.C. Rameswaramurugan, Director – School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Shri K. Vaidyanathan, Editor, Dinamani, Smt. Loganayagi Ramachandran, Editor, Kumudam Snegithi, Shri Raju Murugan, Film Director and Dr. V. Murugesan, Vice-Chancellor, Annamalai University are the eminent personalities being invited for the Neyveli Book Fair 2019.

The entire Book Fair venue is free from Plastics as in the case of Neyveli. CCTV cameras are arranged for adequate security. A fully equipped First Aid centre with a doctor is kept ready at the venue.

As there is ever-growing demand from the surrounding Districts, the Book Fair will be open from 11:00 AM to 09.00 PM, on Week Days   and 10.00 AM to 09.00 PM, on Saturdays & Sundays. As a CSR initiative, NLCIL has made special arrangements for the children of Government schools and under privileged children to visit the Fair by issuing free entry passes, cool drinks, water bottles and biscuit packets. More than 15,000 school students hailing from Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore Districts  and  the Union Territory of  Puducherry will be benefitted.

Throughout 10 days, various cultural programmes like Dance, Light Music, Magic show by TV fame International Magic Show expert Mohan,  Pattimandram by renowned Speaker Suki Sivam, Comedy programmes by TV fame Aranthangi Nisha, Pazhani, Azar  & Party, Bharatanatyam recitals have also been organized to enthrall participants.  Also, amusement for children and cafeteria are additional attractions during the book fair.

On the Spot competitions for the kids, students and public are one among the attractions of this book fair, wherein a number of children participate actively. Dinamani, the leading Tamil daily along with the Book Fair Organizing Committee will jointly organize Short Story Competition for Tamil writers, Essay Competition for school and college students and Short Film Competition for the Visual Communication students and public.

Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL, Shri R. Vikraman, Director (HR), Shri N.N.M. Rao, Director (P&P), Shri Prabhakar Chowki, Director (Mines), Shri Shaji John, Director (Power),  Shri T.Venkatasubramanian ,CVO and  other senior officials will be participating in the event. The Book Fair concludes on 14th July 2019.
