Dr. P.K. Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, inaugurated the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stall at the India International Trade Fair 2016 at Pragati Maidan here yesterday.
The stall, located at Hall No. 12, is aimed at generating awareness on issues related to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). Visitors can learn about Government’s efforts towards making communities disaster risk resilient through schemes such as the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP) and National Disaster Management Service (NDMS) at the stall.

A visually appealing diorama showcasing rescue and relief methods adopted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is one of the highlights of the stall.

Machines, models of rafts and life-size mannequins with protective gear used during all sorts of emergencies by NDRF are on display.

A ‘Kids Corner’ with fun games, quizzes and animated videos to help children understand the notions of safety from natural as well as man-made hazards has also been put up. The activities at this corner, being run by the National Institute of Disaster Management, will make children understand the need and importance of DRR. NDRF has scheduled live demonstrations of rescuing techniques.

Paintings by schoolchildren during a national-level competition on themes related to DRR organised during the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) 2016 are also on display at the stall.

Information on Do’s and Don’ts before, during and after disasters as well as other awareness generation activities can also be collected from NDMA’s social media desk at the stall.
