NALCO celebrates ‘Indradhanush’ with Marginalized Children

Nalco is committed to nurture the dreams of the marginalised children of the Maoist-infested and tribal dominated Koraput district of Odisha, through mainstream education and shall encourage the hidden talents by instituting annual awards,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, Nalco while addressing a kaleidoscopic programme ‘Indradhanush’ here on Sunday. The programme was organized for the 162 children of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar, whose education is being taken care of by Nalco Foundation, the CSR arm of the company.

It may be mentioned that Nalco Foundation, as one of its flagship programmes, is taking care of the education of 655 children from the periphery villages of Nalco’s Mines & Refinery Complex, located in Damanjodi. The Foundation provides formal education to these children through three residential schools – KISS (Bhubaneswar), Koraput Development Foundation (Jeypore) and Bikash Vidyalaya (Koraput). The company organized an interactive session with the 162 children pursuing their education at KISS yesterday. “This year, we are adding 100 more children from Pottangi area,” informed Dr. Chand. He also said that the annual awards shall be given away to 4 out of these 655 children every year for their excellent performance in academics and co-curricular activities on the occasion of Nalco’s Foundation Day celebration. The awards shall carry a purse of Rs.25,000/- each.

Earlier, Shri B.K. Thakur, Director (HR) delivered the welcome address. Addressing the children, Smt. Preeti Roy, President, Nalco Mahila Samiti, shared her motivational thoughts with the children. Among others, Nalco’s Director (P&T) Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director (Commercial) Ms. Soma Mondal, Director (Production) Shri V. Balasubramanyam, Members of Nalco Mahila Samiti and Editor of Kadambini, Dr.. Iti Samant were notably present on the occasion. Shri Pratapaditya Mishra, C.O.O., Nalco Foundation, coordinated the interaction session, wherein the children expressed their thoughts and shared their feelings with CMD Dr. Chand and senior officials of the company. A colourful extravaganza of music, magic and dance regaled the children.
