Minor quake in Koyna region in Maharashtra

An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the richter scale on Saturday shook Koyna region of Maharashtra, the fifth tremor in last three days in the high seismic zone. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake struck at the depth of three kms at 5 pm.

On May 18, two quakes measuring 3.7 and 3.9 on the richter scale hit Koyna region. The next day, two more minor earthquakes measuring 3.7 and 4.0 hit the same area. The Koyna region falls in a seismic zone. The Ministry of Earth Sciences is conducting an experiment in Koyna, which houses one of the largest water reservoir in the country.
