Kheya Bhattacharya appointed as next Ambassador to Morocco

Ms.Kheya Bhattacharya IFS (1985) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco.

Dr Kheya Bhattacharya joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1985. She has served in Brussels, Dhaka, Paris, Kathmandu and Geneva. She has also served in Ministy of External Affairs.

Dr Kheya Bhattacharya obtained her Ph D in Molecular Biology from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, after completing her B Sc Hons from Delhi University and Masters from Columbia University, New York (USA). Dr Bhattacharya has also attended the Foreign Service Programme at Oxford University, UK obtaining with distinction the diploma in Diplomatic Studies.

Dr Bhattacharya’s postings have been in Brussels(1986-89) as Second Secretary(EEC), Dhaka(1992-94) as First Secretary(Information, and Commerce), Paris(1997-2000) as Counsellor (Political ), Kathmandu(2004-07) as Minister (Economic Cooperation) and Deputy Chief of Mission. She was the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of India to the UN in Geneva(2009-13) prior to joining NDC. In the Ministry of External Affairs, Dr Bhattacharya has held the posts of Under Secretary ( Americas), Deputy Secretary (West Europe), Senior Programme Director (ICCR –Scholarship Programme) , Director (Latin America and the Caribbean), Director (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Maldives), Joint Secretary (SAARC) and Joint Secretary (Coordination and Parliament). Dr Bhattacharya is single. Her hobbies include reading, travel and music.
