Towards enabling a robust Inland Water Transport infrastructure in the country, IWAI signs contracts worth Rs 107.73 crores with Cochin Shipyard Ltd for procurement of eight Ro-Pax ferry and two Roll on-Roll off vessels. These vessels ; Ro -Pax (carrying capacity of 2 Trucks, 4 cars and 200 passengers per vessel) and Ro-Ro (carrying capacity 15 TEU) will be deployed at various stretches of National Waterway (NW) -1 (Ganga), NW-2 (Brahmaputra) and NW-3 (Kerala). Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax services are an effective mode to cut down the circuitous road routes and help faster, cost-effective and environment friendly transportation .
