INTERPOL and Cellebrite have signed an agreement which will see the company provide additional and continued support in global efforts to combat cybercrime.

The agreement will see Cellebrite provide the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) with digital forensic equipment and training services over a three-year period.

The equipment, which includes the Universal Forensic Extraction Device (UFED) series of products will be used by both in the Digital Forensics Laboratory at the IGCI and in the field to support member countries in collecting, protecting and acting on digital evidence.

Following the INTERPOL-coordinated Operation Strikeback targeting online ‘sextortion’ networks in the Philippines in May 2014, Cellebrite’s UFED tool was provided to the Philippine National Police for evidence recovery following the arrest of 58 individuals.

The Cellebrite technology will also be used in targeted training courses to support forensic personnel in incorporating digital data into investigations and legal procedures.

Yuval Ben-Moshe, Cellebrite’s Vice President of Business Development, Forensics said, “This agreement further emphasizes our commitment to digital forensics deployment on a global scale, while strengthening our ties with law enforcement communities worldwide.”

IGCI Executive Director Noboru Nakatani said the agreement was part of INTERPOL’s ongoing commitment to working with the private sector.

“Today’s ever expanding cyber-threat landscape requires cooperation across all sectors and our agreement with Cellebrite will help ensure our member countries can benefit from their digital forensic solutions when, and where needed,” said Mr Nakatani.
