Health Ministry and NBCC sign MoU-Indian Bureaucracy

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has initiated the process of a big expansion plan of the existing Sports Injury Centre (SIC) attached to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.  A detailed MoU to this effect has been recently signed between the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the state-owned NBCC (India) Ltd for implementation of this Rs 464 crore state-of-the-art project on 1.85 acres of land near Kamal Theatre, behind AIIMS Trauma Centre. The whole expansion programme shall comprise 151 bedded hospital with State-of-Art physiotherapy units with facilities like Gait Lab, Wet Lab, Dry lab. The SIC shall also have High Altitude Training Facilities, Controlled Environment Training Facilities, Bio-Motion Analyzer, 3D Motion Analysis Lab, etc.

The present initiative shall enhance the service missions of SIC and become a Centre of Excellence both in clinical and academic field for management of Sports injuries and dissemination of knowledge and skills in this highly specialized field. Once the whole expansion programme is in place, the Centre shall provide State-of-Art healthcare to patient communities, ensuring holistic management under one roof and cater to all the investigative, physiotherapeutic, operative, rehabilitation and vocational needs in the field of Sports injuries. Considering the fact that Sports are becoming more and more intense and competitive, resulting in the nature of injuries and joint disorders also becoming highly complex, the Govt’s ambitious plan to develop this Skill & Technology driven comprehensive Centre is also aimed at catering to the requirements of SAARC Countries.
