In Uttar Pradesh, the government has extended the retirement age from 60 to 62 years of the doctors working under provincial medical service. State cabinet has approved the proposal in its meeting held last evening at Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presided the meeting.

A official spokesman has told that in view of non availability of medic practitioners across the state the government has taken the decision. Spokesperson has said that more doctors are needed to open new units at different hospitals, to set up new hospital, to open new 100 bed hospital and to run trauma centre and women hospitals qualified medical practitioners are needed.

lucknow correspondent reports that above 73 hundred posts of doctors at different levels are vacant against the total sanctioned posts of above 18 thousand three hundred. About 3 to 4 hundred doctors are being retired every year but qualified doctors are not available to fill up the vacancies.

Newly recruited doctors are not very keen to join the service and if any how they join the service resigned very soon. In these circumstances providing adequate medical services to the common men has become very difficult.
