Mr Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Govt. of India , while inaugurating IOD, India’s 18th World Congress on Environment Management in Delhi, said ‘Growth is an imperative, development is an imperative cannot be ignored , but we can certainly do it in a more sustainable and environment friendly manner’. Also reflecting upon the significance of sustainable development , he spoke that we have not inherited this earth from our ancestors rather we are holding this earth for our future generations. More global policies are coming up to support environmental management and solar manufacturing through Make in India programme, etc involved in bringing the required environmental sustainability.

While bringing solar revolution in a big way to India, Govt targets generation of 1,00,000 MW of solar power by 2022, which is also on the right track. Govt targets $9 billion in energy efficiency cost savings every year. This will reduce your power bill.

Mr. Amitabh Kant CEO, Niti Aayog gave the comparative view of growth rates of Korea, Japan & China with India and told India may be confronted with challenges of manufacturing which may grow upto 22%. Every minute 13 rural Indians move to Urban India, figures will continue to increase. India need to adopt & implement a urbanization model different from other countries, based upon public transportation system not on cars , but on waste recycling , water management and wastewater management, otherwise the process of urbanization in India will require 4 planets like earth considering its vast population and growing market.

The Convention was also addressed by distinguished Ambassadors of European Union, France and Netherlands in India, Mr Rajiv Gauba, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development and Mr Balvinder Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Govt of India highlighted several Govt Initiatives and policies on ease of doing business in India apart from a large number of Industry leaders and Business functional heads. This year’s IOD Distinguished Fellowships were conferred on Mr. Deepak Gupta, Chairman, UPSC, Mr K. D. Tripathi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Sunil Kanoria, Vice Chairman, SREI Infrastructure Finance and President, ASSOCHAM and Mr. Vijay Karia, Chairman & MD, Ravin Group of Companies during the occasion, followed by Presentation of famed Golden Peacock Awards for Environment, Safety and Eco- Innovation.
