Taking forward the ambitious mission of Swachh Bharat launched by the Central Government, a large number of senior officers and employees in the Ministry of Defence participated in a community cleaning programme in and around South Block, New Delhi . It was led by the Defence Secretary Shri G Mohan Kumar where all the participants wore special T-shirt and cap displaying Swachhta logo with brooms in their hands. The event is a part of the “Swachhta Pakhwada” programme from 16th to 31st May 2016 announced by the Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to be observed in all Central Government offices. Secretary (Defence Production) Shri AK Gupta, Secretary (Ex-Servicemen Welfare) Shri Prabhu Dayal Meena, Financial Adviser (Defence Services) Shri SS Mohanty and several Joint Secretary level officers were among those who participated in the programme.
Under Swachhta Pakhwada the Defence Ministry has conducted several activities like Swachhta pledge taken by a large number of employees on May 16, 2016, holding a competition on the Swachhta theme “Cleanliness is Happiness”, special drive on weeding out of waste materials from office premises etc.
