Committee setup to suggest restructuring of FCI

The Government has decided to set up a High Level Committee (HLC) to advice on restructuring of FCI under chairmanship of Shanta Kumar MP.  HLC will submit its report to the Government within 3 months.

The committee comprises of Chief Secretary of Punjab and Chhattisgarh, Prof. G. Raghuram-Dean IIM Ahmedabad, Dr. Ashok Gulati- Ex Chairman, Commission Agricultural Costs & Prices, Prof. Gunmadi Nancharaiah-Dean of School of Economics Hyderabad, Shri C.Viswanath-CMD FCI and Shri Ram Sewak Sharma-Secretary (Electronics & IT).

The Committee will study crucial aspects affecting the operational efficiency of FCI. It will propose measures to improve the administrative, functional, financial and operational structure of FCI, along with ways to strengthen and integrate the supply chain, its MSP operations, storage, distribution and cost effective options of moving food grains and tracking of carriages, food security systems of India and technological intervention in management of foodgrains.

The HLC will prepare a Consultation Paper for circulation among the various stake holders as well as placing it in public domain to invite comments/suggestions.
