Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt.) Limited (BIFPCL),a company registered in Bangladesh and promoted by BPDB of Bangladesh and NTPC Limited of India with equal (50:50) equity contribution for development of power project (s) in Bangladesh signed Contract Agreement for Main Plant EPC (Turnkey) Package with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), India to construct 2×660 MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project at Rampal Upazila under Bagerhat district of Bangladesh on 12th July, 2016 at Bangladesh.

BIFPCL selected BHEL through an international open bidding process. Construction of this prestigious project will contribute immensely to the overall development of Bangladesh especially its power sector. The contract value of the project is 1.49 billion USD which will be financed by Indian Exim Bank. The plant is expected to come to generation during the financial year 2019-20.

The project is adopting stringent environmental norms with highly efficient machinery and state of art technologies have been selected for this project to make it an environment friendly project. Moreover, BIFPCL has voluntarily adopted various measures to safeguard the environment and also to uplift the livelihoods of local people.

Among others, the Contract Agreement signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Shri  Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister of the Govt of Bangladesh, Shri Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Shri Monowar Islam, Secretary (Power), Govt of Bangladesh, Shri Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Secretary (Power), Govt. of India, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC Limited, India, Md. Shamsul Hasan Miah, Chairman, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), representative of BHEL, Shri Prem Pal Yadav and Managing Director, BIFPCL, Shri Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya.

Maitree Super Thermal Power Project is the first such project being developed by BIFPCL and it is one of the Fast Tract Projects identified by the Government of Bangladesh (Govt of Bangladesh). The project is a symbol of successful cooperation between India and Bangladesh for development of Bangladesh power sector. NTPC_indianbureaucracy
