An 87-year-old school at Ballupet, which was in a dilapidated condition with leaking roof and crumbling stone pillars, has got a new lease of life, thanks to the efforts of BEL, the Navratna Defence PSU.

BEL has constructed a new building for the Government Higher Primary School with 10 classrooms, staff room and HM room, separate toilet blocks for boys and girls, kitchen and store room, facility for hand wash, borewell and a boundary wall apart from providing furniture for the classrooms and staff room, as part of its CSR activities. The entire project was completed in nine months at a cost of Rs. Rs.1.85 crores. The school houses 125 students, mostly from economically weaker families, and needed more classrooms as the student strength was on the rise.

The new building, located at Ballupet in the Sakleshpur taluq of Hassan district, was inaugurated on June 23, 2016, by Mr M L Shanmukh, Director (HR), in the presence of Mr H D Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and Hassan MP.
