Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Raipur has been given extension for a period of three months w.e.f 13.1.2017.
Professor B.S. Sahay is Founding Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur, India.
Prior to joining IIM Raipur, he was the Director of two top level national institutes, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, India and Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad, India for about six years. He changed the face of MDI into a faculty driven top class research based institute. He brought radical change in MDI and introduced new HR Policy & Service Rules, Research Policy, New Incentive Scheme for Research & Publications, Faculty Development Programme etc. Professor Sahay transformed IMT Ghaziabad an institute par excellence, from a teaching institute into an integrated business school, which is ranked as one of the top ten schools in India and respected among academia and corporate equally. IMT was a turning point for
Professor Sahay and branded him as a transformational leader who championed for excellence in higher education in India. He was also responsible for setting up IMT Dubai and providing strategic guidance to IMT Nagpur.
Before moving to IMT, Professor Sahay served on different positions at MDI including Dean (Research & Consultancy), Chairman – FPM Programme, Chairman – Graduate Prgrammes and Professor of Operations Management. He was also an Adjunct Professor at School of International Business, Queensland University of Technology, Australia and Founding Chairman of Centre for Supply Chain Management. He was the Principal Coordinator for Quality Improvement Programme in Management, sponsored by All India council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India. Under his able leadership, AICTE started Doctoral Programme in Management under QIP Scheme.
Professor Sahay did his B. Tech. from BIT Sindri, M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India. He has widely traveled world over and went to Germany and Japan under Fellowship Programmes. He has over 27 years of experience in teaching, research, consultancy, executive education, and industries. He has worked both in India and abroad on various assignments for manufacturing and service industries. His teaching, research and consulting interests include logistics and supply chain management, production and operations management, project management, productivity management and business modelling.
Professor Sahay serves on the Editorial Board of eight international journals (International Journal of Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, Business Process Management Journal, International Journal of Services and Standards, International Journal of Mobile Learning and Organisation; and Journal of Indian Business Research) and many national journals. He was the Founding Editor of International Journal of Value Chain Management and Guest Editor of many international journals.
Professor Sahay has carried out 20 sponsored research projects and 35 consulting assignments and published/ presented over 135 papers in international/national journals and conferences. He has published six books in the area of Supply Chain Management, World Class Manufacturing and Productivity Management and edited 12 books. His book on Productivity Management was given Escorts Book Award and ISTD National Book Award whereas book on Supply Chain Modelling & Solutions and World Class Manufacturing received ISTD National Book Awards for the outstanding contribution to the understanding of management principles and practices. As a token of excellence for his research work he received three best paper awards. He is recipient of the Best Director Award, Best Teacher Award, Award of Excellence in Research and Nurturer of Talent Award. Professor Sahay has been honoured by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Alumina Association and has been given “IIT Delhi Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to National Development” for the year 2010-11. Professor Sahay has been facilitated with “Distinguished Alumnus award 2010” BIT Sindri.
Professor Sahay is on the board of Decision Science Institute, USA; Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs and All India Management Association. He is on the expert committee/Advisory Board of All India Council of Technical Education, National Board of Accreditation, National Task Force of CII on Skill Development, many universities and organisations. He is member of Decision Science Institute (DSI) USA; Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), USA; INFORMS, USA and Fellow of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering.
