AIIMS doctors checked health condition of gas leak victims

Health Minister J P Nadda has said the team of AIIMS doctors checked the health condition of gas leak victims and confirmed that they are out of danger. Mr Nadda said the five member team of AIIMS doctors also visited the Tughlakabad Depot where the gas leak incident took place yesterday.

Mr Nadda yesterday constituted a five-member team of doctors to take stock of the situation. The team of doctors was headed by Dr Y K Gupta, head of department of pharmacology at AIIMS in New Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said, strict action will be taken against those found guilty in the gas leakage incident that led to the hospitalization of students. Delhi Government has asked the District Magistrate to investigate into the matter. Delhi Police have registered an FIR in the matter under various sections of IPC and the Environment (Protection) Act. The gas leak was reported from a container depot next to Rani Jhansi Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya and Senior Kanya Vidyalaya in Tughlakabad area.

According to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the chemical agent involved is likely to be cholo-methyl-pyridine, which is an eye and respiratory irritant. Over 450 students and 9 teachers were admitted to hospital following complaints of eye irritation due to gas leakage from a nearby container depot.

The students were taken to a nearby hospital immediately for medical aid. Till yesterday, maximum students have gone back to home.
